How to get here

Winton’s Heritage Truck & Machinery Museum is located in Central West Outback Queensland. You’ll find the town of Winton along the Landsborough Highway, closely located are the townships of Opalton, Corfield and Middleton. The journey to Winton travels through vast, striking landscapes which can be best enjoyed during a self-drive experience, however there are more options for those who have limited travel time.

By car

Winton is fully accessible via bitumen roads, however for the off-road enthusiasts, there are plenty of back roads and little-known routes to be taken. Don’t forget when traveling in the Outback to take care, and check your mobile phone reception areas.

By flight

Rex Regional Express (REX) services Winton. There are flights on Tuesday and Thursday into Winton, on a loop departing from Townsville, which connect with QantasLink flights in Longreach. Please be aware when flying into Winton that the Airport is located 5km from the town, so be sure to organise an airport pick up. Winton does not currently have a taxi service, so ask your accommodation provider if they would be willing to provide a pickup service. An alternative to flying directly into Winton is to take the daily QantasLink flight from Brisbane to Longreach, where there are several hire car companies available including – Avis and Budget.

Getting to Winton with Bus Queensland is as easy as booking an online ticket at www.busqld.com.au or alternatively calling 1300 287 537 and chatting to one of their friendly staff. Bus Queensland is the Queensland Government contract holder for long distance coach services in Queensland. Their new coaches offer passenger comfort and convenience – sit back, relax and focus on your destination! Bus Queensland long distance services arrive daily at Winton at 12:05pm at the Newsagent on Elderslie Street. The service departs from the same stop at 1:25pm daily.
